School Improvement Council (SIC) Report to Parents

Dear Parents,

I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to you on your accomplishments this school year. Plantersville Elementary School made AYP (Annual Yearly Progress), and received the Silver Award. The collaborative efforts of our teachers and community stakeholders have been instrumental in accomplishing these milestones. Based on the Palmetto Assessment of State Standards Test (PASS) our students are making consistent progress in English/ Language Arts (ELA) as well as Mathematics.  However, best teaching practices are needed to assist students with reading informational text passages and data analysis.

We have incorporated the following strategies to assist our students:

  • Intervention Time - Small group in ELA and Mathematics based on assessment results. (7:45-8:15) daily
  • Daily independent reading at home and school
  • Tutorial assistance in ELA and Mathematics in grades 2-5
  • Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS)
  • Informational text reading at the beginning of special areas (Art, Music, Library, and Physical Education)
  • RAMS Store (Incentives promoting positive behavior)
  • Additional Success Maker Time based on student data
  • Integration of Common Core State Standards (CCSS)

Our stakeholders play an integral part in the learning environment. The Village Group (TVG) and others offer assistance during the summer months through The Plantersville Summer Academy (PSA). Students receive additional instruction in ELA and Mathematics with a certified teacher. A consultant works with our students often to prepare them for PASS Testing.

Several of our students have been nominated for various academic awards such as: People to People Leadership Ambassador Programs and National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF), Pathways to Discovery on Engineering, Medicine, & CSI, an Envision program. We are committed to meeting the needs of all students, by setting high standards. The mission of Plantersville Elementary School is to develop within each student the skills and desire to become responsible productive citizens while developing a lifelong love of learning by providing opportunities for all students to learn and be unique through the partnership of students, staff, and community. We are dedicated to making this mission a daily reality.

Sincerely,

Melonie Green,

SIC President (2013-2014)
